Snow Rescue

Corporate Helicopters was contacted by the Gobierno de Baja California to assist in finding nine lost bikers. The Americans, who were on a motorbike tour in the Sierra de Juarez Mountains of Mexico, encountered an unexpected snowstorm.

Once trapped in the snow and out of fuel without camping equipment, the group found a cabin and lit a fire to stay warm for the night.  In the morning, a rescue operation began by land and air. Two of the motorcycle riders set off to find help and pilot Joe Koller flying an AS350B2 AStar searched the mountains and located motorcycle tracks in the snow that led him to the lost riders.

The bikers were transported by helicopter to La Rumorosa for a medical examination and food.  The rescued riders were all experienced motorbike riders who had previously participated in off-road races such as the Baja 1000 and Paris-Dakar rally.

Sandal Avionics HeliTAWS

Corporate Helicopters worked with Sandal Avionics to provide an AStar for the Research and Development flights for their new Helicopter Terrain Awareness and Warning System (HTAWS). Pilot Gary Roesink began test flights in late December and by early February the FAA had flown with the product and gave their input on the system. TSO is expected in March of this year.

The HTAWS will be installed in numerous Emergency Medical System (EMS), Search and Rescue (SAR) and private aircraft reducing accidents caused by flight into terrain. To learn more about the HTAWS, watch the action in this YouTube video.

50th Wedding Anniversary

Billy and Marie Solan, originally from Ireland, arrived in San Diego from Calpe, Spain on a surprise visit to see their daughter, Debbie. Unbeknownst to them there was a little surprise awaiting them too.

As a gift from their children for their 50th wedding anniversary they were given a Diego Delight helicopter ride around their daughter’s adopted city. Three of their five children were there to watch and wave as pilot Christi Miller flew the happy couple into the wide blue yonder and to witness this historic moment in their parent’s lives.

Daughter Debbie is a local artist and co-founder of a popular local gallery & studio www.fusionglassco.com, located in La Mesa.
